Since changing to a new computer, I'm seeing poor lip synch on DVD movies when they're played in a stand alone Sony player. They were originally recorded on a DVR, edited then burned with Nero. The synch is poor when the movie first starts to play but seems to improves a bit as it continues to run.

MY QUESTION: What can be causing this & how can I fix it?

These DVDs were made by recording a movie from cable TV using a Liteon DVR which records in DVD_VR format. It was recorded to a Memorex DVD+RW. DVD Decrypter was used to open the DVD file & store it on a hard drive as several (prox. 1GB) Video_TS.VOB files.

It is then opened in DVD Shrink 3.2 (which doesn't open DVD_VR) where it is lightly edited to cut several minutes of extraneous clips (commercials) captured just prior to & following the movie. Usually, the movies are short enough so they do not need to be compressed to fit on a DVD+R. Once edited, they are then burned by Nero 7 from within DVD Shrink using the (auto) backup button. Media is Verbatim 8X DVD+R. The hardware is a Phillips 8701 burner.

In (limited) tests done, the original DVD_VR; as well as the Nero burned DVD, both play normally on the DVD drive in the PC (Power DVD, Nero Show, Windows) &/or the DVRs playback mode. So it appears that the issue may possibly be some incompatability with the Sony player.

What is baffling though, is that a number of movies made using the exact same process (but different hardware & Nero 6.6) never had poor lip synch when played on the same Sony stand alone player.

Some help/guidance from the knowledgeable on the forum will be very much appreciated.
    Best regards, Richard

  2. Try to re-edit the original disk with VideoReDo and see if sync is still lost. You might have lost some video frames on capture that resulted in padding. The padding is lost when editing, causing the sync to go out.

    Thanks for replying Barnabas,

What you suggested may be a good idea to correct the asynch on a single movie. However, unless I'm missing some thing, it doesn't appear to address my primary issue. That is, why would movies have asynch audio when nothing - other than some of the hardware - has changed.

This out of synch audio has now occured on four (all) movies that I have recorded using the new computer - so it is chronic, rather than an isolated event. What I really need is to find & correct the cause so all future movies will have audio that is in synch.
    Best regards, Richard
