    I just got my Velocity DVD-2311 last week, and here are my comments on this machine.

    * This machine is all-region out of the box. I have tested DVDs from region 3 and it worked perfectly.
    * It plays CD, CD+G, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW
    * It plays Divx and Xvid AVI files. It DOES NOT play WMV files. It does support subtitles with Divx files. I was only able to test the .srt file, since that's the only one I had. You can turn the subtitles on and off. However, it DOES NOT support IDX/SUB subtitles.
    * The remote control is really cheap. The button does not feel solid. Also, sometimes, the key tends to get "stuck".
    * The slim design is very nice. But, the disc tray seems cheap though. It feels like it's gonna break any time.
    * The machine has an onboard Dolby 5.1 decoder, however, I haven't tested it with my amplifier.
    * It IS NOT a progressive-scan player
    * The Karaoke function seem to work fine. No key changer on this player though.
    * The included microphone feels/seems cheap.

  2. I can't get this DVD player to work at all. It's the biggest piece of junk I've ever owned. No matter what disc I put in (CDs, DVDs (originals and backups)), it says, "BadDisc" and gets stuck. The CD/DVD actually gets stuck in the machine and I have to take the machine apart to get the media out. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, is there a firmware upgrade or something that fixes it?

    I've also noticed severe vertical banding across the screen in the menus and on the Velocity logo when it pops up. This is in all video modes. I can't confirm if this happens when playing a disc because it has yet to play a disc properly. I've tried about 20 different media types and brands with the same stupid "BadDisc" error.

    I didn't have this problem. I wonder whether your unit is defective.
