This is first time ive had this happen so not sure what the problem is. I have a movie ive converted to Divx it plays fine on the computer but on my player all the faces are blue skin tone...First i thought it might be some kind of macrovision protection so i burnt the whole dvd i had backed up and it played with np. So dont think its macrovision, very strange anyone know how to fix the problem. I tried more movies and there fine

So you converted to DivX using their Home Theatre profile? Perhaps try remuxing to avi, although the player should simply ignore any .divx features that it doesn't support.

  4. What DVD/Divx player? If it's the Philips DVP-642 try pressing the System/Menu button on the remote twice.

  5. Hi-

It's some kind of a decoder bug. I've seen it happen when the original AVI was DivX 3.11. If you have AviSynth installed, you can reencode and fix it with:

    AVISource("C:\Path\To\Movie.avi")
    SwapUV()

  7. PC video decoding SIGNIFICANTLY differs from regular hardware decoding.......basically, like in this case, the divx codec would play it back on a pc...but even if the divx codec COULDNT play it back, it would look for other codecs installed on the system that would play it back (im fairly certain that xvid will play back divx 3.11) also, if it is in fact divx 3.11, divx hardware can play back some 3.11 content, but its not completely backwords compatable and may run into problems with some files encoded with certain programs...best bet honestly is to just reencode the file or (if this is possible) resource the file from the orginal source and encode it with divx 6.

Yes, but if you encode something with the UV swapped then peoples skin will be blue no matter where you play it back since it was encoded that way.

XviD can't decode DivX 3.11 since XviD can only decode MPEG-4 and DivX3 is not MPEG-4. Not really relivant anyway.

Truely odd. DivX encoded with HT should play back 100% fine since the player is certified. This is the whole point of certification.

Does sound like the decoder is somehow swapping the UV. Do older encoded files playback ok?

  10. Hi-

Yes, but if you encode something with the UV swapped then peoples skin will be blue no matter where you play it back since it was encoded that way.

How do you know that for sure? It was encoded originally with pink skin, and on the standalone the skin is blue. So, I was thinking that by encoding the skin blue, on the standalone it'll be pink again. I don't know if that will work for sure. TridentS hasn't yet said it didn't work.

I agree that workarounds like that shouldn't be necessary, and that this is a very peculiar situation. But, in my opinion, any player with an ESS chipset is so screwed up to begin with that nothing it does should be surprising.

Ok, it will play back the same on any decoder that isn't broken. My point is that if they encoded something with the UV swapped then it would not have looked ok when played back on their PC.

  12. The DVP-642 has another quirk: when it's hooked up to a TV using the component outputs but isn't configured (via it's setup menu) for component output Divx files (but not regular DVDs) playback "blue".

I have several hundred Divx's and Xvid which played beautifully on the DVP642.....I have now come across my first "blue" skin example.
    Why just this one?
    I have no idea.
I've tried converting it from Xvid to Divx and also recompressing...still no luck.

You could try Limiter() in AVISynth. About the only thing I can think of.

I fixed the blue problem so if it has to anyone here is what to do took me a few days and just decided to try it why it works i have not clue..

Instead of doing one 700meg file or 80 mincd ...I split the movie into 2 350meg files blue skin all gone...got me why it works but it does so if anyone runs into the problem thats the fix...because of this i even went to movies ive done before as one file and they were fine no blue it was just the last 2 movies i did.

which were Loaded Weapon 1 (old movie but it came from kfc with some chicken beggers cant be choosers lol)
    second was Barbies Nutcracker.

Anyways if it happens to you theres the fix im putting it under my strange but true catagory.

This seems to be a glitch in the player. I noticed on my DVP642 that when I watch the file, everything has a blue tint and the people look like Smurfs. However, when I push the "zoom" button on the remote, the player zooms into the center of the picture, but the colors are normal.

Is there some kind of firmware upgrade available for the DVP642? Is there a way I can re-encode the files to eliminate this?

I've already gone throu demuxing the files, reencoding using DiVX codec 5.0.5, then remuxing. This leaves me in the same place I was in before.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
