    Hi everyone!

I have a question for you related with AVItoDVD encoding.
I'm using TMPGenc Xpress, and i follow the normal steps like using 99% of the DVD, VBR 2-pass, and so on...
TMPGenc predicts the size of the MPEG, usually around 4.2 Gb but it happened a couple of times that the final MPEG file, although TMPGenc predicted a normal DVD size, in the end the file had only about half that size... I wonder why? Has this happened to anyone before?

    Sorry about my English

    Thankx

I may be wrong, but when tmpgenc makes it's initial estimates, it's based upon filling the entire DVD. If the length of the video is less than 2 hrs, I find that the estimates are usually not accurate. Since the quality doesn't seem to have suffered, I don't worry about it. DVD-R blanks are inexpensive nowadays, especially when I can find a sale..ie 50 for $15 (US)

I can confirm that, sometimes it happens.
It has always to do with VBR, so one way to overcome this is to use CBR.
TMPGenc support is not at all good in explaining things like these, I think they do not know why, so it is difficult to predict why this happens.

    Ciao
