Is the LiteON 5115+ able to copy protected VHS ???

I want to backup my old VHS (some are macrovision protected) is this drive able to bypass it ?

If no, what i will need to do it ?

Not sure about the 5115, but the 5005 will. You need to use FW 0098, and not the current 0101. They've changed it so the hack doesn't work. You won't lose any features, but you'll still get MV hack and 3 Hr speed.

On many LiteON recorders the firmware is successfully hackable to make the machine ignore copy protections using the program found here...

Unfortunately, it does not work for the 5115. I know because I have hacked other LiteOn players, but couldn't do this one. I believe it's because the 5115 uses a different encoding chip than the other hackable models.

However, if you're just trying to back-up your copy protected VHS tapes, this device has worked for me for many years with copying VHS to VHS and now VHS to DVD...

It will work with the 5115 to back-up VHS. I have tested it and have made excellent back-ups of my Macrovision encoded VHS tapes.

Note: This device will NOT allow the 5115 to copy protected DVDs. You'll need this instead...
