  1. Hi I hope this is a simple question and the answer will come shooting at me.

I am trying to copy my wedding video on to the PC so that I can create a DVD with it. The method I am using is as follows:

1.Insert Video tape into the Toshiba Video recorder.
2.Connect cable from JVC GRDX100 camcorder in to the scart socket on the video.
3.Change the setting on the camcorder to allow A/V in.
    4.Set camcorder to play setting.
    5.Press play on the video.

The camcorder then picks up the audio but the video is distorted. This happensif I am using the Red, White and Yellow plugs into a scart adapter or S Video into the adapter.

Anyone any idea how I get round this?

I'm in USA, thus can't duplicate SCART input issues but the "video is distorted" comment flagged my interest.

I assume this is a VHS or SVHS tape? Was it shot by a wedding videographer service? Many of those people add copy protection to prevent you from making your own copies. You need to review the contract or go back to them.

  3. Thanks for the reply.

Yes it is a VHS tape

I thought of this too but tried a different tape. Same result.

    Any other ideas?

Second, in certain PAL areas, camcorder pass-thru is limited by local laws.

Just talking here, But aren't there a couple of different configurations of this "SCART" adapter?
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?

Was this scart adapter included with your camcorder?
Often those adapters only work one way. (to output video to your VCR/TV)
You need a 2-way(switchable) scart adapter to make it work correctly.

    How was the video distorted?

  7. The scart adapter I am using is a switchable one. You only get the sound and distored picture when it is on the output setting.

When the VHS tape isn't playing, on the camcorder screen you can see the sceen rolling both up and down and side to side.

When the tape plays it is the same effect with a lot of white noise.

That means the camcorder isn't locking to the sync pulses in the signal from the video recorder. Try a different video recorder and see if that makes a difference.
