I am authoring a DVD for someone who would also like to include additional files (documents, photos) that a user could access from their PC.
Can I just include another folder alongside the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS? Are there any potential pitfalls to doing this (I would call it something like "DATA" or "EXTRAS")?

Just put them in other folders in the root, I've done it for at promodisc I made for a local company.
I also include a folder with Mplayer and a AC3 filter so that i would auto paly on computers. in the root I placed this .inf file.
[autorun]
OPEN=MPLAY\MPLAYERC.EXE "VIDEO_TS" /fullscreen /DVD
works most of the time and it does not have any effect on standalone players.
