  1. I recently bought the LG LRY-517 recorder and was having alittle trouble with it. a lot of the trouble went away when i turned the progressive scan off but now i still keep getting a problem on some of the dvds were it looks very shakey. i dont really know how to describe it. it was really bad visually when the prog scan was on but now its still pretty annoying to watch. sorry if this question was already posted, i searched and didnt see anything. thanks for any help in advance

  2. I am having the *exact* same problem. I am hoping that this is a known issue with LG. I am going to call them and find out if they have a firmware update available to fix this problem.

  4. I called LG about it today and they are sending me a shipping label to have it sent it. I went back to Best Buy and purchased another one; it does the exact same thing! It has the manufacture date of April 2005. The one I have (and will be sending in) has a date of May 2005. So it looks like LG has been shipping these for months with the defect.

It looks like the problem only happens when watching "Video" based Progressive Scan material. If I watch a regular DVD movie ("Film" based Progressive Scan), the unit is fine.

So they need to add a menu option to switch between Film and Video Progressive scan, or at least have the unit set to "Auto."

I was quoted 3 weeks from the time they ship the label to the time they get it back to me.

    Merry Christmas. heh heh

  6. I called 800-243-0000. Sorry for the delayed response.

My unit has been shipped back to me and I should have it on Tuesday. Hopefully it's fixed! This puppy wasn't cheap!

  7. I received my LG back from service today and the jittering picture viewed through Progressive Scan of "Video" material has been fixed.

    It's now a flawless recorder.

My cost = $0. And that's how it should be. I just wonder how many of them have the same problem??

  8. I just picked up the lg combo yesterday. The first disc I put in was a dvdr screener of mr & mrs smith. I experienced the same symtoms with shaking. The packaging indicated it was made in june 2005. The same dvd plays fine in and old apex 500 and phillips 642, but does not play at all in a trutech tt1620. I'm not sure if the dvd is "video based", and don't know how to find out (besides it shaking.. hehe). I've tried a couple of other dvdr's, including one PAL release. They play great, excelent picture on my old SD tv. We bought the 2 year agreement from best buy for another $30. If I notice it more frequently I may send it through them or like shatner posted.
Hope I don't have any more trouble out of it, because it will be very cold in the doghouse for 3 weeks. LOL
How can I tell if a dvd is "video" or "film" based?
