So I tried it in Pinnacle studio & it said it didn't support Mpeg 4 filed, TMPG said the same. I've used DVDsanta before to convert it to DVD (than break it into chapters with TMPG) but the video is alwas choppy/ jerky so I figure this must not be the right way. Any suggestions? Thanks
Oh I also tries converting the AVI to mpeg with Softsmart converter but the sound wasn't as good. Thanks

Wellll.... you've got an mpg4 & upconverting (unless it was really hi bit rate) it's not going to look as good as full-sized, less compressed source.

If you like the results in Softsmart, use it for the vid and do the audio separately.
