I have an external 320GB HDD with 3 primary partions on it all in NTFS. I would like to keep the 3rd partition (250GB) as is, but I want to combine the first 2 (10GB + 40GB) into 1 partition. If I use WinXP Disk Management to delete the first 2 partitions then reformat as one, will the 3rd one remain intact? I'm thinking it will, but I want to be sure before I risk losing 250GB worth of files.
And on a related note, is it wise to use different cluster sizes rather than the default? I'm planning to use this new 50GB partition for thousands of small files (15-300KB each), so what would be the optimal cluster size to use?

Yes, you can wipe out the first 2 partitions and create a new one in that space. All data on those partitions will be lost! The 250G one will be ok.
Leave the cluster size to default. Stick with NTFS.
I'm assuming the partitions are not bootable.
