  1. Trim The Fat, an aplication that can strip either the PPC or Intel code from Universal apps, works safely with the new iLife 06 suite. It's not clear to me if it's actually removing the code (and making the app smaller in size) or keeping the unneeded code from loading into ram when the application is launched.

But all the iApps work fine when trimmed.

I haven't played with iMovie enough to know if it has any problems, but I did spend a lot of time with iDVD 6. The installer didn't remove my previous themes, but it moved them from one library to another and duplicated some. Some of my "Favorite" are now considered "Old Themes."

The widescreen themes are nice, but if one doesn't find one that's useful, it is possible to burrow into their contents and use Photoshop to create your own.

Does anyone know if iDVD will install on technically 'unsupported' macs or if the installer refuses to install if the system requirements don't meet the required levels?

  3. Apple claims you have to have at least a G4 processor, but it might run on a G3. The installer may not let you install it however. .If you have a DVD drive you can still install it using Pacifist. Installing is not the same as getting it to run. Check the Apple discussion or the MacFixit Forums to see if others have gotten it to work.

I've gotten it to run by putting a DVD burner thats APPLE SUPPORTED into the early machine. When it sees the A03, early G4's will load iDVD and still open it after the drive is removed!
This was done without an install, by just dragging all of iDVD 4 from a Tiger installation over
