    connect to ipod to the ipod power adapter .(not usb port on the pc)
    toggle the hold switch (on and off)
    press the select and menu buttons for at least 6 seconds ,until the apple logo appears
    this resetts the ipod
    or you can recharge the ipod with the ipod power adaptor (not usb port on the pc)and then try a different usb port on the pc, if you are using a front one try one on the back of the pc

    it seems that my ipod is not charging using the pc usb since the battery icon is not animating. and i think its fully discharged. im just nervous about the ticking sound...

    the ipod light up with the apple icon on it. the light keep flashing and i can hear a low ticking sound when it turn the light on and off. im just worried about this.

    i don't have yet a ipod power adaptor my ipod video comes only with a pc usb adapter. shall i buy one?

    this it what the site says about resetting the ipod
    # Reset your iPod, iPod nano, iPod mini, or iPod shuffle.
    # Retry your iPod with a different USB or FireWire port on your computer (please note that the latest iPods can only be synced through USB).
    # Restart your computer, and make sure that you have the latest software updates installed.
    # Reinstall your iPod and iTunes software. You can download the latest versions of iPod Updater and iTunes from our website.
    # Restore your iPod using the latest iPod Updater. Please note that this will erase all songs and files on your iPod and restore it back to its original settings. After restoring, you can transfer your music and files from your computer back to your iPod again.

    iPod: Charging icon appears but not recognized by computer
    When you plug your iPod into a power source, the charging icon appears—it's a lightning bolt over a battery. If the battery is fully discharged, you won't see an animated icon. Instead, you'll see the icon pictured below (even on a color screen). The icon indicates the battery is charging successfully, but it doesn't have enough charge to power up. When connecting an iPod with a fully discharged battery, it may take up to 30 minutes for iPod to have enough charge to turn on and be recognized by the computer and iTunes.

    This can happen with:

    * iPod mini (Second Generation)
    * Fifth Generation iPod
    * iPod nano
