You can always convert to pdf. There are a couple of free PDF creators floating around.

Right click on the picture(s). Select format pictures and on the picture tab select compress...

Another option is to not store the images in the document but link to them. This is the best method to keep document file size down to a minimum, but if you share the document make sure to supply the images too. To do this click insert/object/create from file and select your image. Make sure the link to file radial box is checked.

They are especially when you start adding images and other objects. if this is a document you will be sharing with others for edits and such they will also need to have .pdf editing capabilities. Most corporate users have acrobat reader only since it's free. Site licenses with adobe are outrageously priced which also limits small companies and even some larger companies from deploying the full acrobat network wide. My suggestion is to put all linked images into the same folder as your document and if the document needs to be shared you'd just need to send that one folders contents to your other clients.

Or alternatively, just accept the large file size, but zip it with WinZip (or similar) to distribute by email.

    I'd recommend winRAR.

    Better compression.

True, the advantage of a .zip file though is that it can be opened in Win XP without any specialist software. If this is to be distributed widely those less computer savvy may have problems with a .rar file.

If that’s not going to be an issue, there was a post a couple of days ago suggesting 7-zip (www.7-zip.org). This seems to offer even better compression than WinZip & WinRar and is free.
