I happened to work with Scenarist. When I tried to import audio streams with the .mp2 extenstions the above application did not accept the file and prompt me with the following: "MPEG audio file (name of file) must be encoded with CRC on".

Can you help in solving this probles please

    Many thanks

CRC is error checking. Its something that is probably an option in just about all mpeg audio encoders. In the future just make sure you turn it on when encoding. If you still have the original uncompressed audio source I'd encode it again with CRC enabled. Let us know what encoder you are using for more specific help.

I don't think its possible to add CRC error checking after the fact into an encoded mpeg audio file, at least I couldn't find a program that could do it. So like the * dude said, you can just decode this to wav and import it that way but it will take up like 10X more space so this might not be an option. Your only other option is to re-encode this to .mp2 again using error checking, which means that there will be some quality loss.

Scenarist has its own AC3 encoder. I recommend that you convert your MP2 file back to WAV, and then import the wave file. IIRC, Secnarist will then ask you if you want the file converted to AC3.

AC3 is the more widely accepted audio format.

No you have to invoke Scenarist's AC3 encoder manually and encode to AC3 before importing into the authorer. But yeah that's a better option than re-encoding to mp2.

The original mpeg2 stream is taken from a dvb source with the .pva extension. Then I am using the Project X to demultiplex the stream and resychronize it. The application split the original into video with the .mpv for vidoe and .mp2 for audio. Scenarist accepts the .mpv extensions without problems but not the .mp2. Renaming the .mp2 to .ac3 or .wav proved futile.

Thanks for you help and advise

You cannot do that. You need some software to convert .mp2 file to .wav. Drag and drop the .wav file into Scenarist and it will prompt you whether you want to convert to .ac3.
