Can anyone tell me what the next card after the GEFORCE 6600 GT PCI-E Video Card, 128MB DDR3 EX 6600 GT, 6700, GT 6800GT

Also, could someone tell me what is the equivilent to the GEFORCE 6600 GT PCI-E Video Card, 128MB DDR3, in the Radeon Brand

Is either one better than the other, or does it just come down to preference?

The next step up from the 6600GT is the 6800, or maybe a 6600GT with more VRAM. The approximate ATi equivalent to the 6600 is the X600. The choice between ATi and nVidia has become so blurred that it really comes down to your personal preference. However nVidia currently holds the SLI market which gives them a little edge, though ATi should be answering soon (if they haven't already). Otherwise the current crop of cards individually are all solid performers.

I think they have already done so, named ATI Crossfire.

I may come off as to weary, but is the 6600gt any good? I ask this because I can get a 6600gt for as low as 120.00 (4.85 shipping), but the 6800 is 165.00 more (285.00) Whats the deal? Are stores just trying to get rid of a product (6600gt) that is on the way out

I really don't won't to spend 120.00 on a card that will soon be unable to operate most games and programs. 6600gt........ 7800gt; pretty big gap

    Am I being too concerned

I currently use a 6600GT (Galaxy) and its a good card. You can play the latest games quite comfortably and its reasonably priced. (im not much of a gamer, only play rarely)

I also use a 6600GT. Works just fine for me.

Does your computer have PCI-E graphics or should you be looking at an AGP card? Your profile shows an Athlon XP and there isn't any Athlon XP board that supports PCI-E.

OK, I've been convinced to go with the 6800 series of GEFORCE. Don't even think about recommending a 7800

I have two links that include a 6800XT and a 6800 GS. I assuming GS is supposed to be better than XT; correct me if I'm wrong. Nevertheless, either of these two are better than the 6600GT right?

    http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=AA40870 XT

I've read from someone that the amount of memory that a card uses doesn't really matter when it comes to the card's performance. Now I thought otherwise, but I'm a noob when it comes to vid cards. So what does it really mean when one card uses 128MB and another uses 256MB (as does the GS and XT)

Another thing, what can the GS do that the XT can't do

They both seem to have a HDTV TV Tuner on board. Now does it really act as a TV Tuner? Just asking because I was gonna purchase a TV tuner card along with a vid card and I read that in order to record a channel while veiwing another channel, you'd need two tv tuner cards.

Can you receive analog cable signals with an HDTV tuner card?

I see that the GS has 100megs of GPU than the XT, but I don't know what that means in relation to performance

PS scratch the part about the onboard HDTV tuner; I think thats tv/out

In which case the GS is the better of the two. Faster GPU core AND faster memory AND more of it. The extra VRAM would come into play on the latest games and the like. Difference in price is worth it IMO.

Ok guys, Friday night I made enough money to purchase a 6800GS (189.00), but my wife forgot to deposit the money on Saturday morning, leaving me having to wait until monday to purchase the card. But Friday night and all day Saturday, I really considered waiting until next Friday knowing that I would certainly have enough money to purchase a 7800.

But I thought about it, if I were to purchase the 7800, I would have spent more money on a vid card than my cpu Is there some rule of thumb about this

    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=321029&affiliate=nextag Geforce 7800

    http://www.directron.com/bx80547pg3200f.html cpu

Now money is not the issue, its become a matter of peace of mind. Everywhere that I've read, The talk of 7800 was for the use of hardcore gammers.

Well I'm far from a hardcore gammer. As a matter of fact, the only games that I've played on my pc in the last 2 years are from the arcade section of another forum

Now my crappy pc setup has a lot to do with that, but still don't have that feeling in me of an anxious gammer has about this so could "running games at max settings"

I'm torn between having the ability to play any game out today and having an enormous amount of power or capability and never using it

I wouldn't use a 7800 if it were given to me for free. Better things to spend money on, so much so that I'd sell the free 7800 for money for something else.
