  1. Hey everybody , I am relatively new to encoding with Xvid since I have been encoding all movies in the SVCD format. I would like some advice on how to encode high quality captures from TV that follow these standards:

    - Maximum (NTSC) resolution is 720x480 @ 30fps
    - Videos must be encoded using 2 or more passes.
    - All videos MUST be manually deinterlaced / ivtc'd (if possible).
    - Maximum allowed average bitrate is 2500 kbps.
    - Maximum peak bitrate during any 1 second of video is 8000 kbps.
    - GMC and QPEL are NOT allowed.
    - Key frames should be inserted every 30 frames or less.

I would like to know what program would be ideal for this (mind you I would be extracting audio from source and editing it so it can be re-encoded with the final video)

I currently use TMPGEnc 2.5 for all my video editing needs as the ivtc tool is invaluable. The most preferred method for me would be too output the Xvid from TMPGenc 2.5. I would like the encoded Xvid to be a 23.976 FPS video (internally playing at 29.97 FPS) but I am not sure whether Xvid can support this.

Anyway I need help understanding how to use the 2-pass encoding feature of the Xvid codec. I am at a loss regarding how to get the best quality out of it, any resources or tips would be greatly appreciated Also if any professionals of the Xvid codec could recommend a great muxer/de-muxer that would be good since TMPGEnc cant seem to output mp3's for Xvid

Please help me out Thankyou !

All you really need is VirtualDub and the Xvid codec. I use VD Mod as it's more versatile. You can load VOBs into it if you want to go that route from a DVD. You could also add the Lame MP3 codec for better MP3 control.

    Here's one guide: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=221896

For Xvid info: http://www.xvid.org/ is a good place to start.
