That makes no sense, since AC3 itself is 5.1, or six channels.

Do you mea you want to combine 2 AC3 streams (i.e. French and English)?

  3. I'm surprised at you, ks. You don't work with too many older movies, do you? I've seen AC3 with 1,2,3,4,5,6, and 7 channels. Anyway, if I were doing it, I'd convert to WAV, and reencode using Soft Encode. Another way would be to take that stereo WAV file and convert it to Mono in a WAV editor before converting to DD 1.0 with some AC3 encoder.

Although I've wondered about it, I know of no way to just drop one of the channels (if it's a dual mono DD 2.0), and make the other one DD 1.0 without reencoding.

    Yep!!

There are TONS of 2 channel ac3 audio!!!

I would also convert it to wav then whatever editor you have you should be able to open it and then just save it as a mono wav.

I think if can be done with the Sonic Foundry Soft Encode, without we having to convert to any wav file, but still don't know how .

But the DVD-Lab only supports stereo ones, how could we turn back to a stereo format?

    Decode to stereo wav (headac3he)
Convert stereo wav to mono wav (to merge channels) (Goldwave)
Convert back to stereo wav (Goldwave) Both channels now carry the same audio.
    Encode to stereo AC3 (ffmpeggui)

I plead the fifth on this one. To be HONEST, I only started getting interested in the whole conversion business about 2 months ago.
