My tv set which is a 30PW8502/37 Philips Widescreen TV, doesn't get its screen filled whenever im playing widescreen content (DVD's), i know there is different kind of widescreen ratios and such but there hasnt been a widescreen movie yet that has filled my TV's screen ( i still see black bars on top and bottom, the superwide mode which my tv has helps a little but the black bars are still about half an inch to an inch wide. Im also wondering if other people are having this problem too, by the way, my dvd player is an OPPO OPDV971H, and i have it set to widescreen.
If you guys know of any movies that are confirmed to fill a 16:9 Widescreen TV let me know of some so i can try them out.
Plz make the black bars dissappear plz![]()

2.35:1 movies will have black borders, many movies are in this format. check the back of the dvd box.
1.85:1 and 1.77:1 should not have any borders. -

my other little discovery was that when u put a 4:3 tv's dvd player setting to 16:9 and watch a 1.77:1 widescreen movie on it it fills the screen.
if anyone can confirm this plz let me know, thanks for the help guys -
Generally, if your 4:3 TV understands 16:9 (i.e. it has switching capabilities) then a 1.77 AR DVD will have black bars top and bottom in 16:9 mode. In 16:9 letterbox mode it will still have black bars, but it won't be in 16:9 mode, just 4:3 with matted letterbox image. In 4:3 mode it might be P&S or it might still be letterboxed - depends on the disk and the player.
If your 4:3 does not understand 16:9 mode then it will display the image stretched vertically - which will fill the screen, but be distorted. Anything with a larger AR - 1.85 onwards - will have some amount of black in 16:9 mode, even if it is stretched.
On a widescreen TV, anything 1.85 or greater will have bars in 16:9 mode if no zoom is used. This is how it is meant to be. Read this for all the things the people who sold you your widescreen TV should have told you -> http://widescreen.org/widescreen_tv_qa.shtmlRead my blog here.
