Hi All,

I hope this is the right forum to post to and I hope you can help me as I'm at my wits end.

I've read a lot of these posts and and on videohelp.com and haven't found an answer to mydilemma. This is a little long so please bear with me. My PC is a 2.4Ghz P-4, 512M RAM, and 120Gig hard drive. I have about 70Gig of free space.

Here's my situation:

I took a DVD that was created with a VHS to DVD recorder, and I ripped
the VOB files off of it (using DVD Decrypter). Reason being is that I
wanted to use Vegas Movie Studio 4.0 to re-author it and clean it up.

I used AVInet to convert the VOB files to AVI files (so I could then
edit the AVI's in VMS).

Everything seemed to work fine. I edited the video, put in my titles
etc etc., and end up with about 1.5 hours of video.

When it came to render the video to MPEG-2, VMS gets to about 1% and
just stops rendering. It shows that it is still rendering (the timer
is still running), but it really isn't doing anything that I can tell.
Even after several hours there is no change (still staying at 1%).
I've spent about 20 hours editing this video, and I really do not want
to loose it and not be able to get it on DVD.

BTW I'm converting to PAL format (because I'm sending this DVD
overseas), but I also tried using NTSC without any luck either. I've
tried clipping the video down to only about 10 minutes and it still
didn't work. I did get these 10 minutes to convert to VCD format, but
that does me no good as I want to send a regular DVD.

I've also tried using DVD Decrypter to take the VOB files off the
original DVD and using the IFO option to "Demux" the audio for each
VOB file (which are about 5 files 825Meg in size). Then using VOB2MPG
to convert these to MPG format.

The resulting MPG file does not have any audio with it (even though I
have AC3 files created). Whatever I've tried so far still leaves me
with an MPG file with no audio.

What other hoops do I have to jump through to get this to work?

Some more background info. Ideally, I would like to salvage my project
movie so I do not have to start over again. This project plays fine in
Vegas Movie Studio; I just can't get it to convert to MPEG-2. I have
even deleted all but about 5 minutes of video in this project, and it
STILL won't convert to MPEG. I've also tried converting it to a VCD format and it still chokes.

Thanks for any help.

Rob
