  1. Hello All,
For Xmas I received a Sony CCD-TRV68 Video Camera Recorder (Not Digital). I want to convert what I record, to AVI/MPEG on my Computer... Being that is not Digital, I could not use Firewire.
I purchased a Belkin USB VideoBus II, and am hooking up to my computer using the USB port, and a Monster S-Video cable. It is working. But, 4.5 min is about an 800mb AVI file.
I am using MGI VideoWave III software that came with the USB device.
I have never really been clear on what the proper settings are, and what most of it means.

Can anybody recommmend what settings I can use, so I can reduce the file size dramatically, and still retain quality...

    Thank you inadvance.

    Happy Newyear.

  2. There are some excellent guides on-line here.

Here is what I ave been doing and I have been fairly pleased with the results:
I use Virtual Dub and and have it apply the Huffyuv compression codec set to it's default, to keeep the quality high and the files relatively small.
This creates an AVI file which I then convert with TmpEnc using the seVCD or sometimes the Tlbr0 templates (no particular reason for why I may choose one over the other-may need to experiment more). This will create a compliant Mpeg which I then burn to VCD using Nero 5.5
My Toshiba 2700 DVD player won't read SVCD

I have the Belkin video bus I and the Dazzle DM-5000 (from picture and video maker). The Belkin won't work with Virtual Dub using Belkins drivers BUT does work using the Dazzle drivers. Seems they have the same chipset in them (nag...something). Also, the Dazzle will use much higher resolutions with Virual Dub than the manufacturer claims (which makes sense that the limit it via software since they essentially make the same product in several versions and formats).
If your Belkin Video Bus II won't work with Virtual Dub then try getting the Dazzle Drivers. Let me know if you can't find them.
