This has been covered MANY MANY times before.

    - R is actually a little more compatible with players than +R. Older players tend to have more difficulty with +R discs.

BUT if the player is less than a few years old and the media is half way decent there is no real difference between the two.

  3. -R is better because it looks nice DVD-R and not the RW sign!!!

Some people might like the +r discs because the little +'s look kinda like little bitsy crosses and it reminds them of Jesus.

But that's kinda kooky if you ask me.

Yep, same here!! my standalone recoder will not play or read a dvd+r, but when the booktype is changed to dvd-rom, no problem.

    Here is my experiance,
I have seen dvd players that would play both + & - dvdr,

Players that would only play -R and not +R, would play +R changed to ROM,

Players that would not play either + or - would not play +R changed to ROM,

Just in the last few months i have seen 2 players that would not play either + or - R's & would play +R's changed to DVD-ROM. and they were mobile or vehicle dvd players.

But overall, i have had a few problems with both dvd+r & -r's having problems, and since changing all of my dvd+r's "DVD-ROM" for the last couple of years i have had ZERO issues with10's of 1000's of disc's.

But the lack of problems may have to do with newer dvd players being more acceptable of dvdr's altogether.

But from my experiance over the last few years, i will always use +R because i can change the booktype so the disc's can be read as DVD-ROM and have yet to have an issue with them.

Even multi format burners seem to work better with one or the other. My NEC and LG work with both but + format discs always burn at the max rated speed.

One of my older Apex players plays -R and +R as is but +RW need to be bitset to DVDROM

So a lot depends on your gear.

I did notice that some -R sometimes take longer to write the leadin during a burn.

Since more people have moved on to multi format burners so it's less of an issue than the early days.

Try both + and - and see if one you have the most compabibility and success with, stick to it.

Originally, it was just "-", (as in CD-R, you would know there is no CD+R)when the supporteers of "+" came in and decided to use the "+" sign for DVD+R(as a meaning to Plus) when "-" whould mean Minus (not true in fact). Its just a clever marketing ploy of the "+" Camp. Never worked though.

I find I have better compatibility with DVD-R than i do with DVD+R.
