    Hi,

I'd appreciate it if anyone would let me know of an app or way to save .swf movies. The ones I'm looking to save are embedded in a page when I click the link...a small window opens up in the browser and the file is streamed (embedded on page).

    Thanks.

  2. Sorenson software is excellent piece of software for creating SWF files from video sources like AVI / MPG etc.

For saving SWF files embeded on webpages you should try to use this cutie:
    http://www.flash-screen.com/flashsaver/

Is Flash Saver OSX compatible? It doesn't seem so from that link.

This is a long shot and probably of no use to you, but worth mentioning anyhow. The latest versions of the iCab 3 beta have a cache browser that makes it easy to locate cached files and do whatever you want with them.

When the next public preview gets released it will probably include the cache browser. Something you might want to try out if you haven't found a better solution by that time.

Of course, if you have access to the betas then this info is all you probably need to fish those .swf files out.

  5. Or use Snapz Pro to record them as they play.

  6. If you are using Safari, go to Window > Activity. It will bring up a list of all the assets on the page you are currently viewing. Find the .swf, double-click... And it will open in a new window. Then save it.

    Just a FYI.

As I touched on before, a new Public Beta of iCab is now available and includes the new cache browser. You can get it here.

  8. How about a reversable method? Converting a .swf to a Quicktime .mov movie for example? Would love to know the best way to do that...I do have Snapz X Pro but it always yields very stupid sized files. (800mb for 4 minutes of video?...maybe theres a setting Im not using you can advise on?).

I just downloaded a demo of SnapzPro 2, and with a little fiddling
captured a Flash video. Impressive. Dunno if I want/need the
capability enough to pay Ambrosia the $79 to remove the "unregi-
stered copy" blurb that's all over the final product.

Firefox with AdBlock and Flasblock works, too. I had a friend send me a Christmas email with a Flash attachment. Normally I block all Flash, but this one I actually wanted.

When I clicked the link it took me to a website for greeting e-cards and the Flash object appeared and was blocked, which it should have been. To save and view it I clicked "F" once to enable Flash for this ad, then Adblock tab that appears once to get the true url of the Flash file, Apple-c to copy, then opened iGetter, my download manager, and Apple-v to paste the url, and told iGetter to download the file to the desktop. iGetter can send cookies as your 'browser' so the website doesn't think its handing off the file for download.

SWF files can be played by Quicktime. I don't have Flash player for OS X because I hate Flash too much. I have also removed the Quicktime and Flash plugins from Firefox, because otherwise they overrule Firefox and will not let you save the file. I also absolutely block QT from all network connections (with Lil Snitch) to force it to behave and to prevent it from calling home and sending ads to my player.
