I have a MOV file with audio that I need to compress into a divx or xvid avi format. The input summary shows audio in the file (and it plays in QT, VLC, Mplayer with no problem). I've tried different track options (0 & 1) and I've tried inverting but I only get video output, no sound.
The only way I've managed to get audio in the output file is to physically type the directory address of the original separate audio file in the text panel for "Add Audio" (the button doesn't work, nor does drag n drop).
I don't know if this is a bug in the software or the user but I'm running out of things to try...
OS 10.3.9
ffmpegx 0.0.9t r4
If you need more info please let me know what you need and I'll try to provide. Ta.
Edit: Sorry, it seems Mplayer doesn't play the audio in this file. VLC and QT both play it fine. I guess this indicates a problem with the audio that's tripping ffmpegx up but what would the problem be and how would I avoid it in future (I'm putting my own animations together)?
The AV file was composited in HyperEngineAV. THe input audio was a WAV file and the output was Linear PCM, mono, 44.100, sample size 24bits and it diplays the format as Integer (Big Endian) and the composite file used the 3ivx compression codec.
ffmpegx shows the audio as: 0x34326e69, 44100 Hz, mono
VLC lists the audio as: Stream 0, Codec in24, channels 1, sample rate 44100, bps 16, bitrate 705.
If I remix the original animation, is there a "best" audio format to use in the composite AV MOV file so ffmpegx will re-encode it successfully?

Update:
Downloaded 0.0.9u r2 and tried again. Still no luck. I recompositied the original in HyperEngine AV and set the audio to AAC. This played in MPlayer (the binary player, not the ffmpegx "Play" utility) with audio. It seems that no matter what I try (track 0, track 1, invert, use QT, encode AAC....) nothing helps. I get either a single video file with no audio or sometimes, a video file and an empty audio file.
Latest output:
Input #0, yuv4mpegpipe, from 'pipe:':
Duration: N/A, bitrate: N/A
Stream #0.0: Video: rawvideo, yuv420p, 240x128, 25.00 fps

Input #0, mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2, from '/Users/me/Desktop/AACtest.mov':

Stream #0.0: Audio: aac, 96000 Hz, 0 channels
Stream #0.1, 25.00 fps: Video: mpeg4, yuv420p, 240x320
Could not find input stream #0.2
I have no idea what it's looking for that it can't find? The video is there, the audio is there although the ffmpegx input summary in this case shows:
audio: aac, 96000 Hz, 0 channels
I don't know why it would show zero channels when the file plays fine, with audio. I even tried re-encoding a file produced yesterday from ffmpegx and even this resulted in a file with no audio though the ffmpgx process info showed no errors at all on this file
Maybe I've just got this all wrong? Can ffmpegx actually take a composite AV file and produce a composite AV file from it or is that not its purpose? If not, can someone point me to a utility which will allow me to re-encode my animations for web distribution?
Thanks in advance,

Okay, I guess no one knows what the problem is. I'll keep an eye out for future updates but for now I'll have to use MpegStreamclip for re-encodes unless anyone can recommend other GUI encoders for OS X.3.9?
