  1. I've tried a handful of DiVx solutions for QT 7 but so far I don't get any sound when playing back the files. What suggestions do you have for a DiVx player for QT 7 working off OS X Tiger? My goal is to burn the avi file to DVD.

I've tried using Toast 7 to enode to DVD, but still I get no sound. When I play back the avi file in MPlayer it works fine... but it has no way of saving the audio.

my suggestion, dont use QT 7 for playing divx files.

I imagine the divx has sound [as you verified via Mplayer], but quicktime wont handle it well. If you are having trouble with audio, try demuxing the .avi with ffmpegx to verify that it truly is there and that there is nothing wrong with the audio file.

  3. the divx files likely have ac3 audio... normally you would only have to install the free ac3 decoder for quicktime... however, quicktime 7.0.2 broke all variable bit rate encoder plug-ins... so for now you are out of luck unless you want to downgrade qt.
