I was under the impression that most of these HDD DVD recorders could handle pretty much any DVD format for playback. However, when I check out the specs published on their respective websites, this is what I find:

    JVC DR-MH30S

Playback Formats: HDD, DVD Video, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD-R, CD Audio, SVCD, VCD, CD-R/RW, WMA, MP3, JPEG Digital Still Playback (CD-R/RW)

    Pioneer DVR-533H-S

    DVD-R (Single Layer/Single Sided & Dual-Layer/Single Sided)/DVD-RW (with CPRM compatibility)/DVD-Video/CD/CD-R/CD-RW/Video-CD/MP3/WMA/JPEG

Since these "specifications" are often dubious, can anyone confirm that either or both of these players can play back +RW discs?

    Thanks!

    Tim

  2. I don't know about the JVC but I asked that question when I was thinking about getting the Pioneer 533 and other people on this site said that +R/RW did playback in their machines. They couldn't dub from disk to hard drive but they said that it played.

I have a DR-MH30S and it plays back +RWs without any problems as long as you change the bitsetting.

Okay, so they'll probably be able to play +RWs, but just not dub to the hard drive? I think I could live with that.

    Thanks!

I have the DR-MH20S and it plays back (bitset to ROM) +RW's, but can't dub dvd-video burned to +RW's to the hard disk.
Sorry, I had to go see about a girl
