I just realised quite a few of you guys are from Canada so is this new or old stuff?

is it legal or have they passed a law sincel? Although it's pretty impossible to check and enforce anyway

it's not good if it's used on purpose to speed everywhere but it may cut down on the fines people get for going a few miles over the limit (sometimes cameras actually get the speed wrong as over estimate as it was shown in a program here in the UK recently) or being in unfamiiar places

I haven't seen this actual product but the concept is old news.

If it's not illegal I'm sure it will be - It's my understanding that anything used to cover or reduce visibility of your plate is illegal, I'd assume this would be to the eye or a camera...

I'm actually totally in favor of red light cameras as these are fixed objects and help reduce intersection accidents - high death rate for drivers and pedestrians at intersections.

I'm not in favor of speed cameras for many reasons - these are generally mounted on a tripod in the cab of an unmarked car/truck or on the ground. First off, a vehicle parked at the side of a highway (or roadway) is a hazard, second people tend to break suddenly when they notice the parked vehicle.

    Old news.
then again, I'm a regular user of a Canadian Volkswagen forum... there were several threads on this about 2 years ago on there.

It's illegal in most states in the USA. A number of "blocker" products are. In fact, a lot of the vehicle codes make ANYTHING that blocks your plate from clear view as illegal. This would include something as mundane as mud or bug guts. So seeing how an incidental blockage is not legal, an intended blockage surely would be the same.

It's illegal in Hawaii. Even those clear polycarbonate covers are technically illegal, although they were once pretty common.
