I'm dubbing my Supernatural tape to the computer right now. I like his singles but never listened to a whole album. I like it. Even though I'm not a fluent speaker of Spanish (though I took a few years in high school and college) its enjoyable.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

A little buzz helps to make it more enjoyable, but you will forget what tracks you listened to already but you will forget what tracks you listened to already
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?

Eh that's not the real Santana, though its good he's finally getting some recognition. The older stuff is where its at. Give me Black Magic Woman anyday.

  4. Just out of curiosity what do you use to dub your tapes to the computer? I have done tons of video format conversion (digibeta, betasp, vhs....), but never audio. I am thinking a simple audio player and an 1/8th pin that goes into the system should be enough, right? and then capture the audio using Audition

Crap... crap...crap. The Santana of today is mere shadow of the Santana of yesteryear. He might as well be relegated to the label of "guest performer". He takes other people's songs, has them perform them, and he plays some nonsensical flamenco on electric guitar solo over them. How can you package this as Santana?

Santana has always been a mediocre guitarist at best anyway.....no matter what era we are talking about. Sure he has a very unique sound but his speed and timing are nothing to go "ga-ga" over. The late 70's - early 80's Santana Band with Ligertwood singing was awesome. They've been pretty crappy since letting Ligertwood go.

I have a creative labs LIVE 5.1 USB soundcard (though is it really a card if its external??? )

I just hook up an old tapedeck through the line in jack with a rca phono left/right to headphone jack adapter. Works great (though you have to play with the volume - too low and it sounds washed out - if you balance it right it sounds just fine )

  9. I heard a couple of the newer ones on a radio (couldnt change the station where I was) and it sounded to me that he was clinging to his career with the "guest" singers (who can't sing very well.) But what I noticed the most...he like to hold a note for a long time! Sometime I wonder if he was ever in the studio at the same time as the "singers."

I'm going to lean toward "no". His performances sound awfully detached from the rest of the recording. It sounds like all the work was done well before Carlos graced the studio with his presence. Anybody remember "Maria, Maria" from Supernatural? The guitar doesn't fit the feel of that (terrible) song at all. Even in songs such as "Smooth" from the "Supernatural" album, the guitar is far too prominent in the mix while everything else seems to lay back nicely. It's like the producer was trying to smack you in the face with his guitar playing. Sometimes this works (I Wish It Would Rain Down by Phil Collins with Eric Clapton on guitar), other times it's best to take these "guitar gods" and stuff them back into the mix where they won't muddle things up (Vernon Reid on the Vernon Reid mix of Janet Jackson's "Black Cat" - just awful). I think for a great example of how you can have a guitar god play on an album without the muddled, incoherent, hella-crazy guitar playing, you should check out either Alice Cooper's "Hey Stoopid" (not the best album in the world) with Joe Satriani sitting on for a good bit of the tunes (high point: the rhythm guitar in "Feed My Frankenstein") or Whitesnake's "Slip Of The Tongue" with Steve Vai (high point: Steve's guitar intro to "Now Your Gone" - I love the way it follows the melody line then trails off in another direction).

    What...the...hell...

Why don't you just get the CD or download it? Technically it's not piracy because you already own a cassette tape of it. Good lord...

I'll have to agree with rallynavvie there. I know it was released back in '99, but from where the heck did you even buy a tape?

My neighbor had the CD of an old vinyl album of mine. I loaned it to him and the next day, he gave me a very good "format shift" CD

And I actually liked that song, but only because I thought it was a new Matchbox 20 tune. Seriously, why is this a Santana song? At the most, it's Rob Thomas. It's like saying that "Beat It" was a song by Eddie Van Halen.

My point exactly. Why is it a Santana song? It was written and performed by Rob Thomas (and alot of studio musicians) with Santana playing a guitar solos here and there. The song is listed as "Santana featuring Rob Thomas". Wouldn't that be the other way around?

I bought it cheap at a garage sale. And why not dub it if I already have it. It sounds just fine.

    I wouldn't brag about being a Matchbox 20 fan
