OK guys, I know this may seem weird, but here goes. I want to know if its possible to switch the sound or song snippet that plays at the start up of XP to the sound of windows 2000 start up?

    If so, How?

CONTROL PANEL > SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES > SOUNDS.

Go down to "Start Windows" and select whatever you want to play on startup.

Well I want to change the melody to that of Windows2000's start up melody. How can I find of if either of those tones are from 2000?

Of course, the melody that you desire to change to has to reside on your computer!

    any folder you want
get the file, put it where you want it.
click Start>Settings>Control Panel>Sounds & Audio Devices> and on the "Sounds" tab, scroll down to "Start Windows" and highlight it.
Below that, click the "Browse" window and tell it where the sound you want is.

In an earlier post, someone stated that the melody that plays at 2000 start up is on XP, my question is where or what is the name of that file?

I don't know that it's in XP already, you might have to copy it over. You can use Beethoven's 5th symphony if you want, as long as it's a WAV file and you can browse to it from the sounds window. (Might take a while to finish.)

On my 2000 machine at work:

    c:/WINNT/Media/Windows Logon Sound.wav 475kb

If you really need it I can email it to you... just PM me.
