  1. Bare with me here, it is my first day trying to make a vcd/svcd, I have a panasonic rp56 which plays vcd cd's. I can get the VCD's to work fine if I leave everything the way it is with TMPGEnc, but the SVCD's don't seem to be working, I make a little sample and all it does is play in my dvd player but I don't get any video, so my question to you guys, is there an advantage of SVCD over VCD? If so I will try and figure out SVCD. If not, How can I get the best picture quality out of my VCD's?

    Thanks a ton guys!

Check that URL to see what your DVD plaer is capable of using, then DL the samples under tools, and make your decsison of what you think is the best....

Personally, I think that SVCD (MPEG-2) gives better quality for me. But thats just my opinion, based on my little experience.

  3. Ok SVCD might be better quality wise, but think about this. your present player will play VCDs, the next one you buy will, and the one after that. But theres a good chance they WONT play any SVCDs you make.

  5. ok sid you said it plays in your player but no video do you have sound, it could be like that other cat said svcd's svcd's play at a higher data rate then vcd's which could be the problem I had traffic svcd's awhile back and they wouldnt play on the new apex 3201's but plays fine on the older 550w's superbly

  6. SVCD is better quality traded for less time on disk. As stated above, check the compatibility list, try a CD-RW, try some different brands of blanks, DL the sample SVCD for test.
