Hey, when encoding a movie in tmpeg, both when making (S)VCD from DVD and when converting from captured AVI (from VHS) to VCD, how important is the motion search setting?
Does slow and very slow differ much? Is fastest really bad? How much does it matter?
I always choose the slowest option to be safe, but is it really necessary? It adds lots of time

Doesnt seem to important, depends on how satisfied you are with your current encodes I guess. I suggest ya do the Slow option.. not Very Slow. I have never been able to tell a difference between Slow and Normal anyways hehe.
All depends on your source, if the source is decent (DVD in your case) shouldnt really matter. But if you are scraping for quality might be worth the extra time for encoding.
Just differs on peoples needs.. hope I helped.

motion search accuracy is actually quite important. however, there's basically no difference in quality between high quality (slow) and highest quality (slowest) except for an extra 8 hrs of encoding for the slowest.
