  1. I made a mistake and posted this in the wrong section so here it is in the proper one. On the dual layer discs, are the +R's or the -R's more compatible with dvd players or is there no difference?

In general, there should not be a difference. DVD+R DL media is cheaper and easier to find, and it works well, especially booktyped to DVD-ROM, so I'd just use what works unless you're feeling lucky and desire to test.

I would second Lordsmurf's advice, and I would just add that the DVD+R dual layers appeared on the market much earlier, so there is a lot more anecdotal evidence to help you try to make sure you are purchasing high quality media. You can read quite a few reports as to which brands work on a lot of players (Verbatim), which ones worked with several players, but not nearly all (Ritek seems to be running a second place), and which brands seem to cause the most problems with compatibility (most of the others). Do a search, and you will find that the early results have been discussed widely on this forum and also a few others.

If you try the DVD-R dual layer discs, though, they are so new that you might be considered more of a "pioneer," taking the risks on your own. If so, we anxiously await your reports. There is not a lot of user reporting yet to try to help you decide what is "safest."
