    hello,
    first post here and very new to linux. here is the question. how can i get the .avi to play in MS windows. i compressed one video and sent it to my wife's work to see if she could view it. all she got was the audio. not exactly sure what i am doing, just pushing buttons to try to get things to work. it started off as a mov. and then i went to the DV pipe and ran the MPEG-4 AVI dual pass and saved it..

    setup :
    Dell D800
    80hd
    512ram
    pan, PV GS-65 3CCD camcorder
    using Kino software

    not sure what that is.... it that the media players? if so, i have kplayer and mplayer installed.

    Those are video codecs. Take a look in the Tools section here and search for XVID, then you'll see the download link. Alternatively you can find these codecs in a package on the mplayer downloads page on www.mplayer.hq
