I'm just trying to make a quick screen capture to use as a background for a DVD menu, but so far they have been coming out full of block noise, anyone have any tips on what I should use to take the screen capture, and/or any particular techniques.
I have the chosen video in .avi, and .mpg.
Also does anyone know if there is any technical diference between a screen capture and a still, is it that a still uses several frames while a screen capture only uses one?.

You could try Virtualdub and just capture a key frame. I use 'Snapshot source frame' under 'Video' with VD Mod.

If your trying to capture a frame of video tips for doing so can be found here: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=239865
If that don't help you need to provide what the source is and what you want to do with it. I know you said for a background but what kind, motion or static? -
I just wanted a still, I think I have it figured out now, thankyou for your help.
