Hi, I need help on burning Video on DVD-R with Nero ultra 6 on Windows XP.
I have been using DVD shrink to capture, then use Nero 6 to burn the DVD to DVD-R on Windows 2000 with any service pack.
I recently has Compaq PC with windows XP, as well as Dell laptop with XP, and both of them can capture with DVDshrink, and burn with Nero 6 with DVD+R/W, with internal of external DVD burner ( NEC 2x or Toshiba 8X Drive )
But When I use a DVD-R (2x, 4x, or 8x ) to burn the same movie, Nero 6 won't burn and return error. the DVD-R remain blank !
Can fellow memeber tell me what's going on, and how to get around this ?
Thank you in advance.

Maybe the drive in the compaq and the dell both have DVD burners which support only one format. These types of limited drives can still be found on eBay and other places so it's not uncommon to find them in older machines. With Blu Ray and HD DVD opposing each other we can look forward to the same fiasco in the next generation of DVDs too.

The NEC and the Toshiba both are external USB drive. So the issue is likely not the drives. I also used Nero 6.6 for both XP and Win2k.
The problem is only on XP. -
Tried anything besides Nero?

Have you tried just dragging and dropping using the Win XP burning solution?
-
Open Windows explorer and drag and drop files to the drive. Select the drive and click burn. Win XP includes DVD Burning directly inside the OS.
-
It's for multi-session burning and it's not the greatest solution available but it will help to determine whether XP is the problem.

DVDs and VCDs are read by DVD player that expect the record to be at the exact location. I doubt drap and drop XP burning will create a playable DVD.

Oh, I remeber that I was able to successfully burn a 8x DVD-R at 2x speed with the internal DVd burner in the Compaq PC with XP. but all other burn attempt will go thru the process but the burned disc won't play on JVC or Pioneer or goldstar DVD players.

JB : NERO UNABLE TO BURN DVD-R/RWs
JB : I have Nero version 6.3.1.10 installed however I am unable to burn DVD Video files onto DVD-R/RWs. I can burn them with Nero onto DVD+R/RWs, but not DVD-R/RWs. I have tried using Datawrite Red (V2) and Datasafe (RITEKG04) DVD-Rs for this purpose, however neither of them will facilitate the burning of DVD Video files onto them using Nero version 6.3.1.10. I can burn DVD Video files onto DVD-R/RWs and DVD+R/RWs using Disc Copier in Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6.
What would be the possible reason for not being able to burn DVD Video files onto DVD-R/RWs using Nero?
I am using Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 1.
Wes : Try the new version Nero 6.3.1.15
If that still doesn't work, you may want to try uninstalling ALL other burning apps (such as Roxio) and then trying with Nero again.
Don : If you've got the @#^$$ Roxio Packet software installed, remove it. That software is known to interfere with all sorts of other software, and it's unreliable to boot. You might also verify that you have NERO's ASPI installed.
JB : Just thought I would give you an update. I let Nero off my computer for a day or so and then installed the latest version of Nero, version 6.3.1.15 and found that I was able to "burn" DVD Video files onto both DVD-R/RWs. So problem solved.
Many thanks for your help.

Does other burner software can impact Nero ability to burn DVD-R ? -
I would just like to add to SingSing's excellent response, above. Make sure you have uninstalled any Roxio software, if you have it on your system. Then, see if that solves the issue. I have had two friends who both could burn on one type of disc (DVD+RWs) but they could not burn on others (DVD-Rs, or DVD+Rs). Brand did not matter. We tried high quality stuff (Taiyo Yudens, Verbatims) it made no difference. In both cases, they had popular, high quality DVD burners, and very new ones, and ones which were definitely compatible with both DVD-R and DVD+R discs.
In both cases, uninstalling Roxio fixed their problems. Instantly, and neither have seen it return with more than a year under their belts now. They were both getting an "illegal disc error." This has been discussed here in the past. The conflict has to do with "packet writing software." Both Roxio and Nero are aware of the issue. (By the way, it can also keep DVDDecrypter from burning, with the same exact results).
Nero says to uninstall Roxio, of course. Roxio says to uninstall Nero, of course. It only applies to certain versions, and it only applies to certain systems, and certain versions of Windows. Most never see this conflict, But, a few do, and it can drive you nuts.
If you are absolutely certain you do not have anything Roxio on your system, ignore this.
