Samsung DVD-HD945 - HD Xvid

I bought a Samsung DVD-HD945 and a Philips 42PF9967. I would like to watch Xvids from my favorite TV series with this combination but it does not work. The Xvids are usually 960x544 and i cannot find a way to make them play. The player starts I hear sounds from the receiver and after 2 seconds it starts from the beginning again. And there is no picture at all in some resolutions i try there is only a blac screen and in others there is a green screen of the size the video should be. I already asked Samsung and they told me the player might be bad I should return it to get a new one but somehow i doubt that this is the source of the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. Your problem is that the player won't play XviDs at that resolution. There are some players that will, but yours isn't one. You might check the manual, but for most, they'll only play up to 720x576.

There may be additional reasons the XviDs might not play, such as XviD's GMC. You might make a few XviDs at lower resolutions, or reencode the ones you have, and try again.

According to the manual the player does play higher resolutions thats also why i bought it. I heard it might be because of the way those Xvids are encoded maybe using a function named Q PEL or so.

The online manual says the max Divx/Xvid resolution is 720x576:

Ah you mean there is a difference between the max Divx / Xvid resolution and other formats ? Because the player should be able to play Videos in HTDV resolutions but maybe as mpeg streams only then ?

The player can upscale standard definition Video sources to HD compatible frame sizes. It can't play HD sources as far as I can tell.

Hmm then they lied to me when I ordered the player. I have to verify this and if its true i will return the player. Thanks.

What HD sources do you have other than MPEG4 files?

Hi-

I'd be careful about accusing them of lying if I were you. Something like "High Definition Picture Quality" may be misleading, but not necessarily a lie. As junkmalle said, it upscales to Hi-Def, but it doesn't accept Hi-Def sources. The player is a year old now, and there were no true Hi-Def MPEG-4 players then. They've only started showing up earlier this year. No, I'd say the mistake was yours for not researching it thoroughly before buying it.

Also, I hope that max bitrate of 4 Mbps is the max sustained bitrate, and not the peak bitrate, or you'll have other problems even with the XviDs that do play on that machine.

Normal Xvids play just fine I have no problems with them. And about being careful of accusing them well I have asked if the player is able to play 720p and 1080p sources and not only scale to that format. So when the player is not able to do this now i would say i wasnt told the truth.

And well maybe i should have informed myself better but then again when I ask a so called specialist to tell me what he would recommend to play 1080p videos and buy it from him then i would normally think that i get something good.

So what player can play those Xvids now, is there one ? Thank you.

players with sigma em8620 chipsets can play highdef divx and xvid,

or build/buy a new HTPC, they can play all formats...almost...

I can get the Kiss DP-1100 and that one is able to play HR Xvids thats nice but the problem is that there is no HDMI port as far as i can see so when i connect it to my TV without using the HDMI port will this work and will I see the HR format or will it be scaled down ?
