I have compiled six short movies all of them I have have been made into mpeg2 using tmpgenc plus. Each movie is a different length, 5min, 8min, 20min, 7min, 8min, 12min. I used the same settings for all six of them in tmpgenc, bitrate max being 8500 for each of the six. I then brought the six into tmpgenc dvd author.

When I play my finished dvd back the movies play back sluggish. Is my bitrate to low?

Also in one of my set top dvd players, I have two, the movie plays better in one of the dvd players than the other. Both players are 2 years old, but not the same brand. Why is this happening?
My media is sony dvd-r, if that helps.

I'd say possibly too high bitrate. Even if it's well within DVD specs (depending on audio bitrate), maybe not all players can handle it.

Final gigs, not sure, have to check. That small of movies, plus ac3 audio for each at 224bit and chapters. Not sure I will have to check. One thing I do know is my bar that shows how much space one has left untill it gets to the exceeding dvd mark, it isn't to the full mark by any means. That is in tmpgenc dvd author, if that helps. mats.hogberg you think my bitrate is too high?

The TMPGEnc Plus wizard mode makes you select a bitrate of 8000kbps or less.

They did that for a reason.

Although I'm not so sure that this is the problem BUT it very well could be the problem (i.e., using too high of a bitrate).

It could be other issues though ... type of blank DVD used (many are worse than the best and some burners are picky what you use) ... the way it was burned (need new firmware and/or different burning program) ... crappy DVD player etc.

Last but not least ... It could also mean you encoded in-correctly by selecting the "wrong" options in TMPGEnc Plus. For instance maybe you tried to preform an IVTC on a source that didn't have a standard 3:2 pattern.

Yes, I'd try a lower bitrate setting. Do just one clip, author to DVD-RW and see how it works.

For what it's worth NeroVision Express defauts to an average bitrate of 5073 (the cap isn't listed), MainConcept defaults to 6000, with a cap of 8000 (these are the two encoders I use). Obviously the bitrates can be changed to suit the material.
