Zenith ZRH-516 - Weekly timers faulty

The weekly timers don't work. (They are treated like daily timers.) Specific event timers work as intended.

Anyone else with this machine have this problem?

It works fine for me. I just experimented with it. I set the timer to start recording "Every Friday" at 10:10 p.m. and to stop at 10:12. ThenI turned the machine off and waited for the timer to turn on the machine. It did it. After two minute, it turned itself off. Then I checked the list of the recording events and the "Every Friday" event was still there.

The only thing you have to be careful about is that you have to turn the recorder off and let the timer turn the recorder on. If you leave it on, it won't record.

But the real test will be if it records that Friday timer at 10:10 pm tonight...?

Any update on whether or not it is working properly? (I.e., did it start recording the next day or not? ) I'm very curious to know as I'd like to purchase one of these, but only if the weekly timer functions properly. Please let me know, and thanks in advance!

When I called LG Canada about this, they seemed unaware, and didn't think there was any newer firmware yet. They suggested I take it to a service centre, but if there isn't upgraded firmware, what's the point? I hope that they are working on this now, though.

It's really too bad they treat there recorder customers as 2nd class. Their burner firmwares are readily available over the web for customers to update their drives on their own.

EDIT: For anybody else interested in this unit, others have had the same problem with the weekly timers.

Falberni, who tested and verified the existence of the problem for me (thanks!) posted a possible workaround over on redflagdeals.com. He says that if you set the timer less than 24 hours before the first time you want the program to kick in, it behaves correctly. Maybe you could try it out and let us know if it works for you.
