  1. Frustrating... it seems easy enough.. burn a DL disc the same as always right?? Data DVD.. drop in your Audio and Video TS folders.. select DL media and burn??

It burned great, no problems, but the disc was unreadable by both my computer and my dvd player??

Am I supposed to be burning as Video instead of Data??

I checked the help file that came with Toast.. no mention of DL burning, their website, no mention of DL burning, and even here on videohelp... no mention of DL burning with Toast?? Is anyone out there with experience that can help me with this?? Similar issues?? I dont want to waste any more DL DVD's.. im glad the coaster I made was free or I would have been really pissed!

    Thanks again guys!

Im using an old NEC ND-3500AG think Im at 2.17 firmware too?? not to sure about that one.

  2. Many DVD players will not support DVD+R DL media unless the the book type of the DVD+R DL is set to DVD-ROM. Pioneer drives always set the book type to DVD-ROM.

However, if I remember correctly NEC uses DVD+R DL book type instead for most of their drives and they are less compatible. There are tools to set this in the firmware on the NEC drive. Maybe some one else can point you towards it.

If you got the NEC drive from Lacie, they set it to DVD-ROM also.

I don't know what OS you have installed, but pre-10.3.9 didn't support DVD+R DL book type in the Finder. Updating the OS to 10.3.9 or 10.4.3 is always good.

To find out the book type on the disc you burned, you can get info in Toast 7 and it will tell you.

Also, you are using Toast 7.0. I recommend updating to 7.0.1

  3. Man booktype is all greek to me, i will do my research... I will also try and address some things...

Just checked the dvd on my NEC drive and it plays back perfectly, doesnt show up at all using my apple dvd drive, or my standalone dvd player. I have a firewire external setup that I built not bought from Lacie...

    I have the latest osx

    I also just upgraded Toast.

And heres the disc info for that burned disc.

    Thanks!!

    >>did some more searching and found this:
Well, in DVD Decrypter, you can change it, there'll be a 'button' to click on the bottom half of the screen. You can change it with Nero CD-DVD Speed and DVDInfoPro as well, in CD-DVD Speed it's in the 'extra' drop down menu. I don't know whether your particular drive can do bitsetting, although most of the 16x burners can.

sounds good?? ill try it out. if there are any other suggestions let me know. thanks.
