Hi,
I just got the Win XP Pro x64 Edition CD and I installed it on the computer which I got this year and also before it had Win XP Pro from CD.
The Win XP Pro x64 works great because it comes with lots of drivers, like the network drivers and so on, however, there are some drivers that it did not come with though. I checked the add hardware and when I tried to install drivers the add hardware went up in errors.
I reformated the computer and put Win XP Pro x64 back on a second time and I found that the CD nor the Windows Updates had Service pack 2 or DirectX and some software and drivers requires or recomends SP2 and DirectX. Am I doing something wrong to where those are not there or am I looking in the wrong places, ...?
I tried installing the drivers and software the first time with Win XP Pro x64, without the SP2 ( I thought it had SP2 when I first put it on because it gots the Windows Security Center ), DirectX, and Framework ( Windows Updates just got it ), the computer would install software usually so it sort of worked, however give me errors with drivers and not install them. Since the first time I tried with the drivers and it did not work, I am thinking maybe for the drivers and some software it needs the SP2, and Direct X or does it not need them and I am doing something wrong?
How come the SP2 and DirectX are not in the Win XP Pro x64 CD nor Windows Updates like the Win XP Pro does, or are they there and I am doing somthing wrong and is there a special options that needs to be picked?
Should I install SP2 and DirectX anyway would that help the drivers to work?
Any and all suggestions, questions answered, and/or ..., would be great! Thanks soooo much! I really appreciate it!

Win 64 has DirectX as part of the OS. Installing an older version or SP2 will just mess things up. SP2 is just a collection of updates from MS. It's for XP32, not 64. All X64 OS updates can be DL'd from Microsoft.
What drivers are you having trouble with? You don't list your motherboard, and haven't filled out your computer profile so I have no idea what your system specs are. You need to go to your motherboard site and see if there are X64 motherboard drivers. I use beta drivers for my Gigabyte motherboard for X64 from their site. You can't run 64 properly without the X64 MB drivers.
If it's software, there are some programs that haven't been updated to run on X64. Here's a list of compatible programs and some hardware:

Hi,
You are right lack of information. This 64 is new to me and I would love very much to figure it out. Thanks soo much for telling me about SP2 and direct x I did not know that. That web site helped a lot also because my clonecd was not working and the one they list is newer then the one I have because I thought clonecd was no longer being made I did not think they had newer ones. I did not know that the other xp is 32 and the newer one is 64 either. Thanks soo much for sharing information with me!
I have a DFI/NF4 Landparty nf4 SLI-DR mother board. I have a VGA ATI/Radeon 9600xt 128 8x RTL graphics card (video card) I think?
I need the drivers to make the sound work and the drivers for the graphic's card because when it scrolls the screen does funny thing. When I go to add hardware there are 5 things with errors Video Controller, Raid Controller, Other PCI bridge Device, Multimedia Audio Controller, and Standard VGA graphics adapter, if that helps any? I also have a QuickCam® Pro 4000 and the software would install, however, not the drivers. I also have a DVD/RW PLEXTOR 16x PX - 716sa/sw and I am afraid that I will install the wrong drivers because awhile ago the burner did not work at all and I think it was because I installed the wrong drivers?
I hope the more information helps sorry about the lack of information. If more information is needed just like me know?
Should I try to install the sound drivers, graphic card drivers for 64, ... again, or something else instead?
Thanks soo much once again! -
These appear to be the latest drivers from the DFI site:
http://us.dfi.com.tw/Support/Download/driver_download_us.jsp?PRODUCT_ID=3449&STATUS_FLAG=A&SITE=NA
Their info not really clear about 64 bit drivers, but they do list some. You could probably look around their site a little more and get some more information about 64 bit operation.
These from ATI:
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=367
This does appear to be a 64 bit driver for all Radeon cards. -
That's a nice motherboard.
I think you have a PCI-E video card. That MB doesn't seem to have a AGP slot. But the Radeon video driver I listed will work with any Radeon video card on a 64bit system.
On the DFI website, you can use any of the drivers that are marked 'Window XP64' or 'All'. Don't use the ones marked 'XP' or 'Others'.
Those drivers may be newer than the ones on your motherboard disc, or the Windows disc and should solve most of your problems.
For the DVD-RW, you don't need drivers. The OS should install them automatically.
For your QuickCam, go to the manufacturers site and see if the have 64bit drivers available. If not, check and see if they have a forum. Somebody else may have had the same problem and a solution.
After you have installed the drivers, check your Device Manager. If you have no yellow checkmarks, you are good to go. (Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager) -
Hi,
Thanks soo much for all your help. I really realy appreciate it!
Guess what? I was able to fix all except for 1 driver. The sound and scrolling and everything.
I had trouble with the ati page not working, however, I was able to fix it because instead of going to custom like I usally do I just went to express and it installed the drivers!
The driver I am having tourble with in Device Manager is:
Other Devices
Other PCI Bridge Divce
SI Pseudo Divice SCSI Processor Divice
If that helps any?
Thanks soo much for everything!
