OK, I reformatted, installed SP2 and all that, now trying to install ATI MMC. I have a 9600XT AIW, and have installed my original drivers that came with it from my disk. Installed MMC 8.8 and now wish to upgrade. I was doing fine for the longest time with 9.2, but it crapped on me this week. Won't capture, or when I get to the end and stop my capture, it ends the program.

Now, when I try to upgrade to 9.2, the install program hangs. I did get 9.1 installed, then upgraded to 9.2, but ran into the same program failure that I originally had.

Someone please tell me which version to use. I know lordsmurf suggested 9.2. I was using 9.6 at one point, had trouble, using 9.8, had the same trouble. Also, when I did get 9.1 on and upgraded to 9.2, my add/remove programs still showed only 9.1.

    Please, anyone!

Let me ask this as well. I have 8.8 installed now. The highest resolution I can capture at is 640x480. I do basketball games, either from DirecTV or from VHS. Will this resolution be sufficient to convert to DVD? I really don't want to go through an extra step of having to convert to a different resolution.

8.7 and 9.02 are the most stable versions.

    Valid DVD resolutions are 352x480, 720x480, 704x480, 352x240

I suggest 352x480 or 704x480 with this card.

You may need to manually unintalled after the automatic. You could also have other spyware/adware hidden on the system causing troubles. This is most likely related to other stuff running in the background while capturing.

Will the 352 X480 lookos as good coming off VHS or satelite as the 704 or 720X480? If so, problem solved.

Also, LM, will 8.7 do 704X480?

Excellent. Now, any idea where I can get 8.7? And then I'll leave you alone. I hope.

OK, one more question. Does it matter which Catalyst I have installed? I just put on 5.11.

You'll have to gripe at ATI. They put on anti-leech crap on their server, and now most of their old links to download previous versions are now fucked up.

You can see it from this page, but it's a dead-end link:
    https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293

They only show new ones for 2000/XP, and only really old ones for 98. ME is the page for these. The OS doesn't mean anything, all of the MMC's except for 9 work on all of them.

That company makes great hardware, and even decent software, but the settings are always screwed. And their website is always screwed. Lot of weak links in that chain of employees.

    I found this... https://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=1324

But it doesn't come up for me all the time. It says something about session expired. If the page loads correctly, you'll see all the previous versions of MMC and the Catalyst drivers.

Now, once I got 8.7 on, I realized it doesn't capture the resolution I need. All I see is 352X240. Is there something I did wrong?
