hi i got a new harddrive and reinstalled everything i had or at least i think i had.

i tried backing up a dvd yesturday, dvd decrypter rip it too the harddrive ok, then i tried to use dvd shrink, but as soon as i open dvd shrink the computer goes so slow it's as if it's crashed.
it takes 20mins on anything i clicked to respond, when windows task manager eventually loads it says cpu is at 100% usage.

I've also tried playing the dvd on powerDVD and as soon as i click play same problem happens, i end up having to press the reset switch and wait for it too boot up again, but it happens again and again.

p.s. tried dvd in standalone player works fine, also working fine before on old harddrive.

same thing happened with divx movies untill i installed an older divx version instead of the new 6.0.

any program to do with a dvd seems to crash, does anyone know what can cause this? and how to fix it?

    thanks!

Did you format hard drive once installed? Consider Wintasks to highlight running processes and what their role is. Consider going into start up manager, MSCONFIG or via WinTasks and unticking a few processes etc etc. Basic stuff really. Personally i dont think its a 'DVD' issue.

i reformatted then reinstalled everything fresh again,
looked at services and processes and they look normal, nothing there that shouldn't be as far as i can tell.

can one of my codecs be screwed like direct show or something?
if i load a divx x avi file into powerdvd, it freezes up nearly with cpu usage at 99% on powerdvd.
But if i load the same file in winamp it plays fine.

i really want to get dvd shrink to work again since, it was so easy to downsize the dvd files from dvd decrypter and make a dvd ready to burn.

Thank you for contacting Cyberlink Online Support.

I understand that you are unable to play DVDs after installing new hard drive.

Check your DVD drive is installed correctly under Device Manager.

Please make sure your DVD drive is working fine.

    Try few other commercial DVDs.

Try some other software as well like Win Media Player.

Please try the following steps to resolve this issue:

    (1) Please uninstall PowerDVD (by following steps)

    (a) Start --> Programs --> Cyberlink PowerDVD (uninstall it). Check the registry for any existing PowerDVD keys and delete them using steps (b) and (c).

    (b) Start --> Run (keyin ""regedit"") --> HKEY_Current_User --> Software --> Cyberlink --> PowerDVD and/or PDVD (delete the folder)

    (c) Start --> Run (keyin ""regedit"") --> HKEY_Local_Machine --> Software --> Cyberlink --> PowerDVD and/or PDVD (delete the folder).

    (d) Search and delete folder named Cyberlink and PowerDVD, if exists. Restart your system.

    (2) Update VGA and Sound card driver.Contact your computer manufacturer to get the updates.

Please visit your DVD-ROM manufacturer's official website to update the firmware for your DVD-ROM model.

Reset your display settings, screen area to 800 x 600, color depth to 16 bit and monitor refresh rate to 60 HZ.

    (3) Install PowerDVD 5.0 program

    (4) Please install latest patch for PowerDVD 5.0 software:
    http://www.gocyberlink.com/multi/download/patches_1_ENU.html

Note : Above patch is not for PowerDVD XP 5.0 Dell Version. For Dell version download patch from Dell website.

    (5) Upgrade to DirectX 9.0c driver
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=141d5f9e-07c1-462a-baef-5eab5...displaylang=en

    (6) To avoid any compatibility issues, please close all other software and utility applications including virus scans, spyware, screen saver and instant messaging software,UNINSTALL ANTI-SPYWARE installed on your system,
close any popup blocker installed before you launch PowerDVD.

If the issue still persists, then please upload and provide us the two system files (cldma.log and DxDiag.txt) for further analysis.

You can search in the hard disk drive and then attach the cldma.log and DxDiag.txt files. If those files are not available then you can generate these files by following the steps provided below:
    (a) Start -> Programs -> Cyberlink Power DVD -> System Diagnosis -> Diagnostic.
This will generate a file named "Cldma.log" file
    (b) Now, click on Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tool > System Information.
    (c) The System Information window will open. In this window click on "Tools" menu and select "DirectX Diagnostic Tools" option.
    (d) The DirectX Diagnostic Tools window will open. Let this utility complete collecting the information from the system (you can verify this by checking the status bar in the bottom left of this window).
    (e) Once the status bar disappears, you can click on "Save All information..." button and save the file.
The DxDiag.txt file will be available.

Please send the above file as an attachment(less than 2 MB in size.) with your response.

For uploading these files for us to verify, please follow the steps provided below:

    1. While you read this answer on our website, click on "No, I would like to ask another question".
    2. Go to Section " Attach File ".
    3. You can select three files (each less than 2 Mb and send to us).

Please feel free to contact us back for any further clarification in this issue or for any assistance related to Cyberlink products.

    Thank you and best regards
