  1. Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWD2 is what's listed in my device manager.

I've had this Double layer Memorex DVD burner for less then a year. Not long after it was installed, I noticed that while it was saying that it would take 15 mins to burn my 4x dvd, it was actually taking an hour.
I used system restore on my WinXP & it worked fine.
I've done this twice before & each time it's gone back to burning like it should.
Well, it's doing it again & when I went to run a restore again, it shows there are no restore points available. I have never had it show no restore points available before & I don't know what to do about it.
It is set to have the system restore activated & I while I realize that whatever the problem is, I've probably just been masking it, but at least it was working & now I'm at a loss as to what to do.
So, I've actually got 2 problems I guess.
The 16x burner is taking about 45 mins to burn a 4x dvd when it shows it will only be 15 & my system restore is not making restore points like it should. Help guys!!!!

  2. it is probably reset to PIO mode, and using system restore is setting it back to Ultra DMA mode (as it should be).

    Check this thread:

or try some searches for "Ultra DMA".

  4. Well, now, after I deleted the secondary one & rebooted & it added it again & it's set to the right settings, now my drive won't play movies, either commercial ones or mine. It won't recognize a dvd with an mpg on it either.
It just spins for awhile & then stops.
If I bring up the drive on the explorer, it shows empty, but all dvd's, mine & commercial, will play on the dvd player.
    Now what did I do?
    Help!!!!!!!!!!!

When I bring up dvd decripter, it says the device is not ready
When I bring up dvd shrink & I go to open the drive, it says it's empty & if I still click on it, it brings up a box that says there's no disk in the drive & the parameter is incorrect.

I tried a restore back yesterday & the day before & nothing.

The last 2 dvds I've tried to burn have failed.
