Just looking for some general information here.
I'm building Anime DVD's and in the past I have used TMPGenc, but due to the fact that it takes forever encoding I have started using WinAVI as frankly it takes 20 minutes to convert an xvid to a DVD with AC3 audio. Whereas TMPG takes near on 2hours an episode.
So I know WinAVI gets a lot of crap around here for being a trashy encoder, but as far as Anime is concerned is it that bad?
Thanks!

A bad encoder is a bad encoder, period. All-in-one software also tends to leave much to be desired.

Getting quality output takes time, 2 hours isn't that long
Wait until you start using AviSynth and frameserving with filters. A few of the better anime filters and functions can take upto 24 hours and more per episode but the final output is worth it
Try having a look at Cucusoft video converter if you want speed but with a possible improvment over WinAVI
http://www.avi-vcd.com/avi-to-dvd.asp
It can do batch mode, join video, converts virtually any video format including divx and xvid, can output custom formats, user definable final output quality -
Probably because WinAvi is the biggest piece of monkey crap ever
If in doubt, Google it.
