I'm rather new to the DVD+R and +RW format of burning DVDs. Have been searching this forum quite a bit to see if I could find the answers. Found some, but still having problems. I have install in my Pavilion 9688C computer (800 MHZ Pentium III) a Ricoh DVD+RW RW5125. I upgraded the firmware from 1.51 to 1.72, which seemed to help with some issues. I am attempting to use Nero 6 as my DVD burning software, with InCD. Made the mistake and bought DVD-R discs, learning that later they are not the correct format for the drive. I do have DVD+RW discs of 4X, which I have been attempting to use.
First issue is with InCD. I try to format a DVD, and I get an error message as follows: "Error Writing the disc in F:\. Please confirm that the disc is compatible with the drive and is not scratched or damaged." I recieve this message with every disc I attempt to format.
Second issue is with NeroVision Express. I complete the compilation of the files I want to burn. I am given the message of the majority of my project containing PAL than NTSC material. (I don't understand all this yet) I have attempted to burn the compilation both ways, as PAL and NTSC, it appears that Nero attempts to burn the project onto the DVD, preparing and encoding the files. Burning them in PAL, I immediately get an error in GCCORE.DLL. Leaving the settings at NTSC, the project encodes, but when the burn process starts, another error message appears as follows: "MICROSOFT VISUAL RUNTIME C++ LIBRARY Runtime Error Program C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nerovision\Nerovision.exe Abnormal program termination. This is followed by another error message, either in GCCORE.DLL again, or QUARTZ.DLL.
Am getting very confused and frustrated. The burner works correctly for CD burning, but cannot figure out what's wrong with the DVD burning. Please help!

You do not need to, and cannot, format a DVD which is why you are getting the error message from In-CD. From the other message it sounds as though you are giving Nero a mixture of PAL and NTSC standard video files and it cannot cope with both. PAL is the video standard used in most of Europe and Australia, NTSC is the standard used in the US. The frame sizes and rates are different. Look at What Is DVD at the top left of this page to see the differences between the two. If you try playing your files with something like PowerDVD, you can display the resolution and frame rate to identify what format they are. If you really must conbine these files, you will need to convert so they are all the same format, but that is a very complicated process which often results in degrading the quality.
