  1. A couple of threads have touched on this, but I have yet to get a clear answer. I have a new JVC HRS5912U VCR dubbing VHS tapes of home videos (1985-present) recorded on a Panasonic camcorder, dubbing to DVD on a Sony RDR-GX300 recorder.

When viewing the DVD, there are occasional hesitations caused by duplicate frames even after dubbing new tapes. Viewing the two frame by frame, the tape will have images 1 2 3, but the DVD will have images 1 2 2 3. Sony's tech support suggested exchanging the unit. The carton was damaged, but the unit appears to work except for the problem above. I would like to know if it is truly a problem wth the GX300, or if a new unit would do the same thing because what I really need is a tbc. (Or if its a problem with the VCR.) From what I have read, a tbc would not solve this because no frames are missing, but I haven't seen this particular problem mentioned before and don't know enough about DV to be sure of the root cause. Maybe I need to do both.

    jrlouie,

Nobody has a cristal ball to give you the correct answer for your questions without making some tests on your DVD recorder and VHS player. I think that some alternatives were given to you by our members on another thread and you should stop agonizing over the simple and generios option that was given to you by SONY tech support: exchange the unit and see what will happen. I will also suggest trying another VHS machine.

  3. Mine does it too. I love the very clear picture that it records, but it's going back to Best Buy because of this problem.

I have an RDR-GX300, but I have not tried VHS recording yet. I will do so soon since I can still return it. Does this happen often? Will it be easy to determine if my Sony has this problem?

Does your unit only do this with VHS or does it happen with other types of recording as well?

  6. It does it only when i'm recording a vhs tape. I called Sony Tech Support and they have no clue.

I have recorded some vhs sources and have not yet found a problem. Does this happen a lot on your recordings, such as every few minutes, or much less often?

  8. So far, I have been recording home VHS movies.

It seems to happen randomly, but I especially noticed it on a tape of a soccer game where there is a lot of player movement.

Sometimes there are 2 events close together, other times it may take 5-10 minutes.

  9. I discovered the cause of the duplicate frames. I had the VCR sitting on the DVD recorder. Apparently it was causing interference. After separating them, the problem disappeared.
