Does the maximum video bitrate for VCD (?1800) still apply if it's an VCD mpeg for DVD burning (i.e. 48khz)?

Max VCD bitrate is 1150. Max bitrate for mpg1 on DVD is 1865

    Thanks

The story is that I want to convert some DVDs of a TV series into VCD on DVD - there are 23 episodes so I'm making 4 DVDs of 7,6,7,6 episodes. The 7 episode disks end up with a video bitrate of about 1650 to fill the DVD but the 6 episode disks would have a video bitrate of approx 2000.

So, does that mean that I could use an mpeg2 (but downsize the resolution to VCD standard) to make use of the space on the 6 episode disks?
    Regards,

    Rob

Yes, you could do that. But there is no law stating you have to fill each DVD to the brim! It may even look odd, if you use different quality on different discs - and you have to make adjustments when encoding. I'd settle for least common denominator, if I was in your shoes.

Yeah, but I hate to see the space go to waste. The disks cost nearly 50p afterall

You're right - I should go with continuity. At least I can keep the same TMPGEnc template for all the disks.

    Thanks again for your help

If you were to go 5 or 6 discs, you'd be in half D1 territory in terms of bitrate.
    If in doubt, Google it.
