I've noticed a lot of sales for the (somewhat new) Verbatim 16x DVD-R discs but I have a Pioneer 108 DVD burner which is a "slightly older" model now.

Anyone try these discs on that burner and if so are you getting A-OK burns with them?

I also have the Pioneer 108 with latest firmware and have burned the Verbatim 16x dvd-r media with the same media code as crazy14muzic, but not printable, with no problems at all.

I might just try a pack ... OfficeMax has a 50 pack on sale this week for $17.99 but I have to admit I am a total Taiyo Yuden whore so it makes me jittery to try anything else LOL

    My 109 does.

I bought a pair of the 50-packs this week, and then used a $10 OFF $20 coupon that I got in the mail. So 100 discs was $26 and tax.

I've only burned a couple of these with my 108 (came in a tester pack), but one only burnt at 12x and the second failed to verify. This was using the latest (1.20) official firmware.

I'm assuming this is something I did wrong as they receive such good reviews from everyone else - just thought I'd stick my two peneth in.

(To be honest though I'm normally to tight to pay for 16x media, decent 8x is fine for me.)

Burn them at 8x or 12x. See how your burner reacts. I can do 16x just fine, but some older burners just don't handle new media well.

Yeah, always an option, but I get great results from Ritek G05s to pay more to burn at the same speed. Even at 12x for me it just not worth it. I save about 90 sec (2 mins max) by burning at 12x compared to 8x, but the verification is obviously identical so as a percentage of the total burn time its quite small.

Didn't mean to go too off topic, but as I said, just thought I'd add my two peneth to show there's not a 100% success rate (as with everything :P )

    ^^^ Ditto.
Once again only had a couple from a tester pack. As Lordsmurf said though the "older" burners sometimes don't handle the newest media particulally well. Also when pionear have a new model they seem to stop releasing firmware upgrades

For some strange reason Pioneer never released 16x support for TYG03 on the 108. Given the 108's rather conservative Z-CLV 16x writing strategy, it's no real benefit over 12x Z-CLV.

Sounds as though buying a Pioneer 110 might be the thing to do right now but truth be told I burn 8x stuff at 6x on my 108 because at 8x the buffers on DVD Decrypter go "crazy" so I would be happy if 16x media burns on the 108 at 6x ... just so I am getting a quality burn.

I did just read over at cdfreaks that the Pioneer "buffer going crazy" is normal when burning at 8x or beyond but I know I had a couple I did burn at 8x (Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R) that just were not as readable so I been sticking to 6x ... get a steady buffer that way and a better quality burn.
