I went to Best Buy because they had a good deal on Verbatim 50 pack 16x DVD-R (and +R) at $17 after instant rebate. Although the ad paper doesn't state disc speed, the picture does show 16x on both -R and +R cake label.

When I went to my local BB to get the -R version, I couldn't find them. I bugged the sales drone, he couldn't find them either. I was about to get a rain check but the cashier couldn't give me because the product didn't apparently exist!

I found the 16x +R version easily but it seems that local store simply never got any 16x -R. When they scanned the Verbantim 8x, it rang up at $25 so it wasn't on sale

So just wondering if you found them at your local Best Buy or not. The 16x -R does show up on web site with the sale price.

They did sell me the 8x -R at the 16x's sale price. Normally I would have refused anyway but I was almost out of DVD blanks and had quite a few discs to burn. And I prefered -R over +R because I ran into a few DVD players my relatives have that won't play +R at all.

That sucks they didn't have any dvd-r. Which is why I bought a dvd burner that can booktype dvd+r to dvdrom so dvd players that can't normally play dvd+r would be able to. But some members have reported that even booktyping to dvdrom some dvd players still weren't able to play them.

As time goes on, this tends to be less and less of a problem.

What I mean by that is that as time goes on, more and more players tend to play DVD-Video on DVD-R and DVD+R (regardless of booktyping) equally.

And I'm sure as time continues to go on more and more players will support DVD+R DL.
