    All,

I have seen on ebay and UBid.com offers for a refurbished Toshiba RD-XS52 on sale for $349 and up. What do think about these refurbished products? Thought these units were somewhat new, how come refurbished already? I was tempted, but wanted to hear form the gang first before doing that. Thanks.

  2. I wouldn't.....Those could be the same seller, could possibly be a scam too...

Why don' you just buy a new one from Buy.com or Circuit City?

  3. The reason there are so many refurb DVD recorders out there is the massive number of store returns there are. People buy DVD recorders, find out they are not as simple as a VCR to operate, then return them. High end units like the XS52 get returned because tweaky videophiles tend to find something about almost every model that is not quite right... so they return them in order to try another model. Refurbs are generally good bargains. They are tested (and repaired if necessary), going through a tougher quality control process than when they were new. Most come with a 90 day factory parts and labor warranty, too. I've bought many refurbs, with no problems. Sometimes they will show very mild signs of previous use, but that's not a big deal.

BTW, the XS52 is last year's model, and has been replaced by the XS54.

thanks for the replies, guys. Yes, Gshel, they do come with that 90 manufacturer warranty bit as you mentioned. I am so weak when it comes to video gadgets that I cant tell myself no............so I may end up getting one. $349 and free ship aint too shabby. :P

  5. Depends.

Look at a Cyberhome dvd recorder at circuit city for $109 with free shipping for comparsion. If you want a HD, I'd get a Pioneer or Panasonic.
