    Hi guys,

I'm trying to convert DVD movie into AVI (Xvid) with permanent subtitle. I did use SimpleDivx to encode it and the result is excellent. However, My mplayer classic does read my subtitle (idx & sub). SO i want the subtitle to be permanent with the AVI movie.

is there any tool to combine subtitle into AVI file? DO i have to re-encode it again??

    Thanks you guys

VirtualDub Mod should be able to do it, and yes, I believe you would have to re-encode.

BTW, there is a Subtitle forum on this site, listed to the left under 'forums' and I suspect you will see your answer right away.

Struggled with that a while back - Latest AutoGK was what I (after some trial and error) found best and easiest for DVD to AVI with permanent subs.
If you want to add permanent subs to an AVI, you do have to reencode, and yes, VirtualDub is the tool to use.

Better to encode from the DVD again rather than re-encode. Media Player Classic supports VOBSubs (idx/sub) fine though. You just need to have subtitles enabled and the output set to VMR7/9 or use an external render.

for Mats.hogberg, with AutoGK, do i have to convert DVD first to AVi and then re-encode again? or i only need to do it ONCE? any guide about this?

No, it's straight from DVD (unencrypted) to DivX/XviD AVI with permanent subtitles in one step.
I rip DVD to HDD with DVDDecrypter (ifo mode) main title only, then AutoGK. AVI.net is an alternative to AutoGK - they do pretty much the same stuff. There's a good tutorial at the AutoGK home page.

i did rip it to HD with DVD decrypter already but in FILE mode. Do i have to rip it again in IFO mode?
    can i use FILE mode?

Not sure, but you do need the ifo to be able to get the subtitle streams.

    yo mats,

    AutoGK works great! Loving it.
btw, i use DVDdecrypter to rip the DVD in ISO mode. then i use Daemon Tool to mount the iso file. so i still got the IFo & the Vob. and it still works great.
But i'm still curious what make the File mode different from the IFO mode in DVDdecrypter? I want to know more about this if you know.

Thanks alot guys for helping me. I'm greatful.
